My leadership superpowers include high EQ, juggling player/ coach roles, and unlocking potential in teams through a focus on a streamlined process involving research, collaboration, and good communication.
I’ve been in the design industry on and off for more than 15 years and have experience working with freelance clients as well as startups and small and medium companies. I am used to working under pressure, under tight deadlines, and with any degree of ambiguity. My career in design was a natural product of being an artistic kid. When I’m not geeking out about design, I love to cook, inspired by cooking shows such as Chopped and Iron Chef. I’m a hardcore foodie and love eating out and trying new wines at the local wineries.
Design is all about communication and collaboration. Building trust is essential. We build better when we work together.
As a leader, I connect with people. For my team, I break down barriers and get out of the way so they can do their best work.
Curiosity & Connections
Curiosity drives me to solve problems, but I don’t have to have all the answers. I just have to connect the people that do.
I’m possessed with conscientiousness, a near obsession for doing things right, and impeccable ethics, which combine to create my reputation: utterly dependable. When assigning new responsibilities, people will look to me first because they know it will get done.
I look for areas of agreement. In my view, there is little to be gained from conflict and friction, so I seek to hold them to a minimum. When I know that the people around me hold differing views, I try to find the common ground. I try to steer them away from confrontation and toward harmony.
I see the potential in others. In my view, no individual is fully formed. On the contrary, each individual is a work in progress, alive with possibilities. When I interact with others, my goal is to help them experience success. I look for ways to challenge them. I devise interesting experiences that can stretch them and help them grow.
I am inquisitive. I collect things. Whatever I collect, I collect it because it interests me. And mine is the kind of mind that finds so many things interesting. The world is exciting precisely because of its infinite variety and complexity.
Balance is important to me. I am keenly aware of the need to treat people the same, no matter what their station in life, so I do not want to see the scales tipped too far in any one person’s favor. I believe that people function best in a consistent environment where the rules are clear and are applied to everyone equally. This is an environment where people know what is expected. It is predictable and evenhanded. It is fair.
